Today, December 11, 2006, Urban Infrastructure spent the day looking into our subject by visiting a contractor and an architect firm.
First, we saw Don Levine, Mike's dad. He is in charge of a project for CWB and Suffolk Construction to build a new structure on Boylston- The Mandarin Oriental Boston- which consists of hotel, affordabe apartments, condos and retail space. We got to see the building as well as see plan for it. We also got to spend time in a mock hotel room- it had all the actual things in it, from furniture to soaps. It had running water and a packed fridge. Mr. Levine gave a great talk.
Our second learning block was with CBT architects. They are the architects on the Mandarin project. It was cool to see that part of the project as well. They are located on 110 Canal St. THey talked and showed us a presentation on two different projects they have done. We got a tour of the building and all their projects. We asked questions and got some great answers from both talks.
Good day. We look forward to tomorrow.

When we met with Don Levine we learned about what really went into a project the size of the Mandalel Oriantal Hotel. He showed us a virtual video of what the hotel would look like. When we met with CBT they showed us the arcitectual aspect of a project like the Mandalen Oriantal Hotel.
I learned from are time with the devlopers and arckitects that the manegement of the citys space and usfulness is high priority for the people involed with urban planing. the city likes to endorce procjects that utalize a space with several diffrent companys in it. in short the city and commpanys want to make the most efficent use of a peice of land while not compramizing the sperit of the city

We met with Mr. Levine to learn more about the architect and CBT. Espically the project they are doing now. We see the model of the Hotel. That was interesting and the hotel looks good. I also asked about my essential question. I learned about the technology is much higher now,so they figure the way to save a lot of the energy, and also it cause no pollution.
First, we went to a jobsite where they were building a new addition th the prudential center complex. It will contain a 6-star hotel, retail, high-luxury apartments and custom condos. We got to see a mock-up of one of the base rooms, priced at $600 a night. Needless to say, it was unbelieveable. We then went to an architectural firm, CBT, to get some background information on how the building was being designed. We also took a tour of the building and saw their materials samples, providing literally hundreds of thousands of choices, and their laser-cut model shop. We also saw Borat after dinner, to throw a little fun in.

The first day of JUA was sweet. We visited CWB, one of the leading Contracting groups in Boston and learned about The Manderin Oriental project, and found many facts and opinions from Mr. Levine that will later help me answer my essential questional. Our second meeting with CBT proved to be equally interesting. CBT answered a lot of my questions about archetecture. They gave me a different view on the answer to my essential question. The day was very helpful.
The first meeting of the first day on JUA was awsome. we met with Mr.Levine and saw a modle of what a 6 star hotel room will look like allthough the bulding will not be buit for about another 2 years. It was interesting to see how detailed every bit of desiging such a luxery establishment is. I enjoyed this meeting

We met Don Levine and learned about the Manchurian Oriental. It is one of the most expensive abd complex projects in Boston. He showed us a model, a virtual tour of it, and a example of a hotel room. When we met with the CBT company, they showed us the process of architecture and how all the parts have to come together and work.
I enjoyed learning about the process of the planning for construction of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and all the hard work and commutation that it takes to build a structure.
I thought that the model of the city of Boston was very cool and was a good visual reference for making new changes or additions to the city.
Today was our first day in Boston. We started are day off by going and meeting with Mr. Levine. We took a tour of his job site and learned about everything that a contractor had to do. We then took the T over to the architect’s office and they showed us the process it takes to build a building. There office was very cool because we got to see all the building that they were working on and there architects skills are amazing.
